This series is centered around two souvenir objects brought from Russia. One object is a crystal cube in which is suspended a tiny ballerina. The other object is probably considered the most popular and recognizable souvenir gifts from Russia- a matrioshka doll.

The etymological roots of the French word souvenir stem first from Latin "subvenire": to come to mind.

In the case of these particular objects, they are gifts given by someone who has traveled to Russia to a person who has never been there. These souvenirs in essence serve as superficial representatives of a place, a culture, a history. There is an implication of distance, of something mysterious and intriguing in such gifts. This work touches on these aspects and plays with them interchangeably.
